Erica Simpson Memorial Scholarship

Flight Dynamics is awarding a Scholarship in memory of Erica Simpson every year starting in 2008.

Erica was an inspiration for many and has contributed much of her time to aerobatics, antique classics and soaring.  She earned her private pilot’s certificate in the small town in Wisconsin where she grew up.  While attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University , she did not have the means to continue her flying in the University system.  After years away from flying and upon the formation of the ERAU Sport Aviation Club and the Eagle Sport Aviation Club, she became active again in flying through the help of many supporters.  She quickly progressed through many of the FAA certificates in a non-traditional way exemplified by earning a commercial certificate in a J-3 cub.  With the help of scholarships and others in the aviation community, she went on to be an aerobatics instructor in a Pitts Special, a glider tow pilot, a cub instructor, a Sliver Badge glider pilot and instructor.  She was especially fond of teaching her aviation passion to both young and old. Erica perished in an airplane accident at Reno when getting ready for the Air race in 2008.
